Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Association

Nova Scotia’s three pari-mutuel racetracks host Nova Scotia Series Stake events: Inverness Raceway, Northside Downs, and Truro Raceway (shown).

Nova Scotian-bred Standardbreds have made their mark in harness racing. The Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Association (NSHRIA) has introduced this website to chronicle the horses’ accomplishments, as well as the provincial breeders and owners behind that success.

Trainers and drivers with Nova Scotia roots are well-known across the racing industry. But owners and breeders have also made an impact for generations, developing trotters and pacers to excel in regional programs like the Nova Scotia Series Stake and in their careers afterwards.

Truro Raceway is one of the oldest racetracks in Canada. Today, the half-mile track features live Harness Racing April through December and hosts Simulcast Racing (live streams and wagering on top tracks around North America) at two locations: Truro Raceway in Truro, NS and Mill Cove Brew Pub in Bedford, NS.

The legend of the Raceway began back in 1926 when the track was opened for live racing. The initial popularity of the track soared and before long it was pulling in large crowds of enthusiastic spectators.
